GEETA SHANKAR: AN EXAMPLE OF LOVE, COMPASSION AND SELFLESS SERVICE TO THE SOCIETY

Geeta Shankar with an inmate of Omashram Old Age Care
BANGALORE: There are some people in our environment who exhibit an aura of energy and happiness. They attract other people like a magnet with their lively attitude towards life. One such lady who exhibits this rare aura is Geeta Shankar, founder of Omashram, an old age home in Bilekahalli near Bannerghetta Road in Bangalore.

“Geeta Shankar is a mother, sister, daughter and a friend to the inmates of the old age home,” says US Moinuddin, a well known Author, Environmentalist and Educationist who had recently visited Omashram and met some of the elderly men and women.
Every inmate of Omashram had a sad story to tell. But, Geeta Shankar’s love and concern for her ‘elderly children’ had filled their empty lives with a desire to live and enjoy their lives laughing, smiling and joking.

There is an air of liveliness when Geeta energetically walks from one room to another in the old age home. She entertains her ‘elderly children’ with her words. They laugh, joke, share their emotions and once again laugh heartily.

Omashram is a home to over 50 inmates in the age group of 55 to 95 years, all taken care of in the best possible manner.
“There are some people who gain eternal satisfaction in helping others. Beyond any doubt Geeta Shankar is one of them."
                       -US Moinuddin
In our society there are a few 'unashamed' men and women who feel that their elder parents are a burden to them.  But, Geeta Shankar is a living example of love, compassion and selfless service to the society.
